Today’s Verse:
Matthew 6:31 ESV
(Jesus said) “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?”
The other day, while leaving Saint Matthew’s Church in New Milford, I noticed a large brown rabbit sitting the grass staring ahead towards the parking lot. My mind immediately went to my grandfather, who would have been delighted to see this rabbit. He loved rabbit stews.
I stood on the walkway, transfixed by the little creature. It seemed carefree, simply sitting there and looking ahead. The peacefulness of the moment was palpable. As I passed by, the rabbit turned its head towards me, but it didn’t move as I walked into the lot towards my car.
Hopping into my Ford, the rabbit remained in its spot, staring at me intently. It seemed to be making sure I wouldn’t rush towards it.
The rabbit sat there, completely carefree.
As I drove away, I couldn’t help but think about Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. He spoke of the lilies of the field and the birds of the air, illustrating God’s unwavering care and provision. Jesus wasn’t suggesting that people should be lazy or irresponsible. Instead, He emphasized that excessive worry and anxiety about material needs reveal a lack of trust in God’s faithfulness. He encourages us to prioritize seeking God’s Kingdom and righteousness, trusting that He will meet our needs.
Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Almighty God, thank You for all to give and do for me, a sinner. See me through Jesus’ love and strengthen me to trust in Your goodness always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
